Welcome to worship today.

Expect a quieter, shorter, more reflective service than usual.
Please sanitize your hands frequently and maintain social distance from anyone outside your household.
When it comes time to share a sign of peace, please share a wave, a bow or another gesture from your seat.
Please remain in your seat until it is time to exit the building.
Please follow all instructions during and after the worship service to ensure that all of us are safe.
OPENING PRAYER: Psalm 17
Great God, hear my prayer.
It is as sincere as I can make it.
Take my heart, be with me in the night
melt me down to my essence.
Help me live in love and justice. Guide me—
Teach me your love.
Shield me from those who would hurt me —Christine Robinson

CALL TO CONFESSION Romans 6:3, 6
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Our old selves were crucified with him, so that we might be slaves to sin no more.
Trusting in God’s grace, we confess our sin.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God our redeemer, we confess that we remain captivated by sin.
We fail in our love for you, forgetting your gracious acts.
We fail in our love for one another, forsaking our neighbors in need.
Forgive us, God of grace.
Let us be no longer bound by sin, but released, restored, set free
to worship and serve you in freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Romans 6:8, 11
If we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Therefore, consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God.
*SHARING OF THE PEACE
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.
(Please share with one another a gesture, offering peace from your seat.)
Glory be to God, creator, redeemer and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
HEARING THE WORD
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
God of compassion, you have opened the way for us and brought us to yourself.
Pour your love into our hearts, that, overflowing with joy,
we may freely share the blessings of your realm
and faithfully proclaim the good news of Christ. Amen.
SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 14:13-21
The Word of the LORD. Thanks be to God!

RESPONDING TO THE WORD
OFFERING OF OUR GIFTS AND OURSELVES
Beloved and Generous God,
we give thanks for all who continue to honor pledges during this time:
for all who send checks to the church office by mail,
make contributions online, and for the gifts offered here today.
We give thanks for all who offer their time in ministry:
feeding the hungry, caring for neighbors, showing your merciful love.
With gratitude for these gifts and more, we offer to you our gifts and our lives:
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Christ, all people here below.
Praise Holy Spirit evermore,
Praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.
THE LORD’S SUPPER
Taking the loaves and fish, he looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled. Come now, and be filled.
THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Blessed are you, O God,
You have made an everlasting covenant with us, the promise of your faithfulness and steadfast love.
Even when we struggle against you, you never let us go.
Therefore we praise the glory of your name forever:
Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
You sent Jesus to show the abundance of your love.
With five loaves and two fish he fed a multitude; still he feeds us with the extravagance of his grace.
And for this, Holy God, we give you our thanks and praise.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
We especially give thanks that the Lord Jesus, on the night before he died, took bread,
and after giving thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples saying:
“Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way he took the cup, saying: “This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood,
shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”
Remembering your goodness and grace, we offer ourselves to you with gratitude as we share this joyful feast.
Accept this, our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, as a living and holy offering of ourselves,
that our lives may proclaim the One crucified and risen.
According to his commandment:
we remember his death,
we proclaim his resurrection,
we await his coming in glory.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this bread and cup;
make us one in the body and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.
As you love and bless your chosen people, Israel,
let your church be a sign of Christ’s blessing and love, calling all people into your gracious covenant.
Let us now, as Christ’s body, give witness to that covenant and pray together the prayer that Jesus taught us:
THE LORD’S PRAYER (pew Hymnal, p. 16, Traditional)
By the fire of your Spirit, O God,
forge us into one church, many and different people, together in Christ’s embrace.
Set our hearts aflame with a love for the truth and the desire to do your will, that our witness to Christ may burn brightly in lives of joyful discipleship.
Keep us faithful in your service until Christ comes in final victory
and we shall feast with all your saints in the joy of your eternal realm.
Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ,
all glory and honor are yours, almighty God,
with the Holy Spirit in the holy church, now and forever. Amen.
Please come forward up the center aisle when indicated, keeping social distance.
When it is your turn to receive communion, please sanitize your hands, remove your mask, consume the elements, replace your mask, dispose of the containers, sanitize your hands again,
and return to your seat by the side aisles.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
We thank you, O God,
that through Word and Sacrament you have given us your Son
who is the true bread from heaven and food of eternal life.
So strengthen us in your service that our daily living may show our thanks;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

and bring about your peace for all in Christ Jesus, the living Lord.
Especially we pray for
the church of Jesus Christ in every land…
the stewardship and healing of creation…
friends and family members…
neighbors in special need…
all who serve your mission in the world…
leaders, to lead with righteousness and compassion…
all who grieve and lament loss of justice, freedom and life…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of intercession.)
