At Home:  When Morning Guilds the Skies

Welcome to worship today.
To minimize any potential risk of infection with COVID-19, please wear your mask, properly covering your mouth and nose, for the entire time you are in the church building.  We will not be singing or reciting prayers, as recommended by the CDC, to reduce the risk of droplets being spread.
Expect a quieter, shorter, more reflective service than usual.
Please sanitize your hands frequently and maintain social distance from anyone outside your household.
When it comes time to share a sign of peace, please share a wave, a bow or another gesture from your seat.
Please remain in your seat until it is time to exit the building.
Please follow all instructions during and after the worship service to ensure that all of us are safe.

Almighty God, you sent your Holy Spirit to be the life and light of your church.  Open your hearts to the riches of your grace, that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit in love, joy, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

*HYMN Jesus Calls Us O’er the Tumult

During this time that we cannot sing, you are invited to focus on
the meaning of the lyrics, perhaps finding a new depth to favorite hymns.

CALL TO CONFESSION                 Romans 14:10
Who are we to judge one another?  We all stand before the judgment of God.
Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION                       (in unison)
God our redeemer, we confess
that we remain captivated by sin.
We fail in our love for you,
 forgetting your gracious acts.
We fail in our love for one another,
 forsaking our neighbors in need.
Forgive us, God of grace.
Let us be no longer bound by sin,
 but released, restored, set free
 to worship and serve you in freedom;
 through Jesus Christ our Lord.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS                                               Romans 14:7-9
We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves.
We belong to Christ, the Lord of the dead and the living.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!  Praise God!

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
(Please share with one another a gesture, offering peace from your seat.)

Glory be to God, creator, redeemer and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  Amen.

God of compassion, you have opened the way for us and brought us to yourself.
Pour your love into our hearts, that, overflowing with joy,
we may freely share the blessings of your realm
and faithfully proclaim the good news of Christ. Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSON          Matthew 14:22-33
The Word of the LORD.  Thanks be to God!

SERMON                                 “Lord, Save Me!”  –Matthew 14:30

HYMN GtG #435 There’s A Wideness in God’s Mercy

If you would like to share your joys and concerns with the congregation, please call or email the church office.
Holy God, hear us as we pray for your blessing.
Holy God, have mercy on us.

Especially we thank you for the mission and ministry of the church;
every service that proclaims your love…
the people and relationships that sustain us…
 our calling to daily discipleship…
signs of new life and hope…
all who care for creation; and work for justice and peace for all people…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of thanks.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.

Merciful God, renew this weary world, heal the hurts of all your children,
and bring about your peace for all in Christ Jesus, the living Lord.
Especially we pray for
the church of Jesus Christ in every land…
the stewardship and healing of creation…
 friends and family members…
 neighbors in special need…
all who serve your mission in the world…
 leaders, to lead with compassion…
all who grieve and lament loss of justice, freedom and life…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of intercession.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.
All this we ask of you, Lord God, through Jesus Christ our Savior,
and in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The gift of your realm is precious to us, O God. It is worth our greatest efforts and our caring sacrifice.
As we search for the best in life, we also want to share our faith discoveries with friends and neighbors.
We do that personally as well as supporting the church in its mission. May our outreach proclaim to all that nothing can separate us from your love.
We give thanks that you have entrusted to us all that we are privileged to share. Amen.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Christ, all people here below.
Praise Holy Spirit evermore,
Praise Triune God, whom we adore.  Amen.

*HYMN #765 May the God of Hope Go With Us

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
 the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit
 be with you all.
Go therefore, and make disciples.
Go, in peace, to love and serve the Lord.

Parks and Rec Village of Wappingers Falls

Summer Concert: Friday August 21, 2020Mesier Park – 7pm
The Big Band Sound 20-piece jazz orchestra will be giving an outdoor concert in Mesier Park for the 26th time, hosted by the Village of Wappingers Falls Recreation Department.

Masks are required for when you arrive, walk around the venue, and depart, but are not required as you watch the performance.

The Big Band Sound 20-piece jazz orchestra recreates the swinging sounds of the big band era, performing compositions that span an entire century of music, including classics made famous by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. The foundation of the band’s repertoire is based firmly in the classic swing era of the 1930s and 1940s, with all those golden hits from the Great American Songbook, but the band also performs a wide variety of music from the 1950s through today that continue the tradition of the stirring, full-bodied sounds of the big bands. The Big Band Sound performs the greatest music in the world in the most exciting setting of a live big band!

The rain date for this concert is Saturday, August 22nd at the same time and place. If it should rain, we will post an update on our Facebook page and we will send out a notification like this. Recreation Facebook Page
