WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

OPENING PRAYER
Gracious God, you have invited and welcomed us to this place of worship. You draw us away from the idols we create to take your place. When we come together, we sense that there is nothing in life that can substitute for a vital relationship with you. Yet we are only dimly aware of who you are. All the mysteries of the universe are in your hands, yet you have made yourself known among the people of this earth.  We catch glimpses of your work among us and are amazed. We want to meet you again today, as if for the first time. Touch us. Remake us. Help us to stand firm in the faith. Amen

*HYMN GtG# 515: I Come With Joy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06tkcieBMuM&ab
During this time that we cannot sing, you are invited to focus on
the meaning of the lyrics, perhaps finding a new depth to favorite hymns.

CALL TO CONFESSION                 Romans 14:10
God is not fooled by our pious words of faith. God knows our fascination with golden calves – with pastimes and possessions that take up our attention and resources each day. As Moses implored God to spare the Hebrew people, we bring our petitions, seeking a fresh start.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of all mercy, you have planted within us a desire to observe justice and do righteousness. We want to be fair and honorable, delighting in life shared openly and honestly with family, friends, and co-workers. Instead, we are often defensive, fearful, and distracted. We spend more time with our toys than with your truth. We seek temporary thrills rather than lasting meaning. Then we are disappointed when our “golden calves” bring no fulfillment. We return to you, loving God, intent on following the guidance we are receiving from you.  Save us from ourselves, we pray.

SILENT PRAYER

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Rejoice, knowing that God is always near. Our thanksgiving and our supplications are always heard. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Find joyous focus for life in all that is honorable, just, pure, and excellent. Know that your goodwill is pleasing to God. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*SHARING OF THE PEACE
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. (Please share with one another a gesture, offering peace from your seat.)

GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to God, creator, redeemer and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  Amen.

HEARING THE WORD

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
May the words of my mouth and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, O God, our rock and our redeemer.  Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

OFFERING OF OUR GIFTS AND OURSELVES
God invites us to invest our time and resources in ways that build rather than destroy; in work of lasting value rather than temporary distraction. Through the church, we seek to offer a quality of life focused on the worth of every individual, on justice for all and excellence in all things. May our offerings and our lives praise God.

Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Christ, all people here below.
Praise Holy Spirit evermore,
Praise Triune God, whom we adore.  Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
If you would like to share your joys and concerns with the congregation, please call or email the church office.
Holy God, hear us as we pray for your blessing.
Holy God, have mercy on us.

Especially we thank you for the mission and ministry of the church;
every service that proclaims your love…
the people and relationships that sustain us…
 our calling to daily discipleship…
signs of new life and hope…
all who care for creation; and work for justice and peace for all people…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of thanks.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.

Merciful God, renew this weary world, heal the hurts of all your children,
and bring about your peace for all in Christ Jesus, the living Lord.
Especially we pray for
the church of Jesus Christ in every land…
the stewardship and healing of creation…
 friends and family members…
 neighbors in special need…
all who serve your mission in the world…
 leaders, to lead with compassion…
all who grieve and lament loss of justice, freedom and life…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of intercession.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.
All this we ask of you, Lord God, through Jesus Christ our Savior,
and in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
