At Home: O Love that Wilt Not Let Me Go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt69WDtYNLo

Welcome to worship today.
To minimize any potential risk of infection with COVID-19, please wear your mask, properly covering your mouth and nose, for the entire time you are in the church building.  We will not be singing or reciting prayers, as recommended by the CDC, to reduce the risk of droplets being spread.
Expect a quieter, shorter, more reflective service than usual.
Please sanitize your hands frequently and maintain social distance from anyone outside your household.
When it comes time to share a sign of peace, please share a wave, a bow or another gesture from your seat.
Please remain in your seat until it is time to exit the building.
Please follow all instructions during and after the worship service to ensure that all of us are safe.

OPENING PRAYER: Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24
O LORD, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely.
You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.
Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

During this time that we cannot sing, you are invited to focus on
the meaning of the lyrics, perhaps finding a new depth to favorite hymns.

CALL TO CONFESSION                 Romans 6:3, 6
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Our old selves were crucified with him, so that we might be slaves to sin no more.
Trusting in God’s grace, we confess our sin.

God our redeemer, we confess that we remain captivated by sin.
We fail in our love for you, forgetting your gracious acts.
We fail in our love for one another, forsaking our neighbors in need.
Forgive us, God of grace.
Let us be no longer bound by sin, but released, restored, set free
to worship and serve you in freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS                              Romans 6:8, 11
If we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
Therefore, consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!  Thanks be to God.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.  And also with you.
(Please share with one another a gesture, offering peace from your seat.)

Glory be to God, creator, redeemer and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  Amen.

God of compassion, you have opened the way for us and brought us to yourself.
Pour your love into our hearts, that, overflowing with joy,
we may freely share the blessings of your realm
and faithfully proclaim the good news of Christ. Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSON          Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
The Word of the LORD.  Thanks be to God!

If you would like to share your joys and concerns with the congregation, please call or email the church office.
Holy God, hear us as we pray for your blessing.
Holy God, have mercy on us.

Especially we thank you for the mission and ministry of the church;
every service that proclaims your love…
the people and relationships that sustain us…
 our calling to daily discipleship…
signs of new life and hope…
all who care for creation; and work for justice and peace for all people…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of thanks.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.

Merciful God, renew this weary world, heal the hurts of all your children,
and bring about your peace for all in Christ Jesus, the living Lord.
Especially we pray for
the church of Jesus Christ in every land…
the stewardship and healing of creation…
 friends and family members…
 neighbors in special need…
all who serve your mission in the world…
leaders, to lead with righteousness and compassion…
all who grieve and lament loss of justice, freedom and life…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of intercession.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.

All this we ask of you, Lord God, through Jesus Christ our Savior,
and in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Beloved and Generous God,
we give thanks for all who continue to honor pledges during this time:
for all who send checks to the church office by mail,
make contributions online, and for the gifts offered here today.
We give thanks for all who offer their time in ministry:
feeding the hungry, caring for neighbors, showing your merciful love.
With gratitude for these gifts and more, we offer to you our gifts and our lives:
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Christ, all people here below.
Praise Holy Spirit evermore,
Praise Triune God, whom we adore.  Amen.

Go therefore, and make disciples.
Go, in peace, to love and serve the Lord.
