Blessed Jesus, at Your Word:
When it comes time to share a sign of peace, please share a wave, a bow or another gesture from your seat.
Please remain in your seat until it is time to exit the building.
Please follow all instructions during and after the worship service to ensure that all of us are safe.

God among us, we gather in the name of your Son to learn love for one another. Turn our feet from evil paths, our hands from shameful deeds, our minds to your wisdom, and our hearts to your grace. Amen.

*HYMN: Come and Seek the Ways of Wisdom

During this time that we cannot sing, you are invited to focus on
the meaning of the lyrics, perhaps finding a new depth to favorite hymns.

Our ancestors in the faith sometimes sought vengeance on their enemies. Jesus challenged his friends to listen and reconcile with those whom they disagreed. Paul counseled followers to put away quarreling, jealousy, and harmful behavior. There is much in our lives which is harmful to ourselves and others, much that leads to brokenness and lasting pain. Let us confess our need for healing.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION                      (in unison)
O, God, we have not been faithful to your commands. We have been more ready to condemn than to console. More concerned over our image than to work for understanding. We feed flames of dissent instead of welcoming the freeing power of forgiveness. We gather as two or more, not to welcome your presence, but to gossip about those not present. God, turn us around to a new way of being, we pray.

God’s healing presence has come among us and dwells with us. Our openness to God’s transforming love releases in us the potential for wholeness. We will be amazed at what we can do and who we can be as humble, joyous followers of the One who is the way, the truth, and the life.  In Jesus Christ, we are not only forgiven, we are loved.

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
(Please share with one another a gesture, offering peace from your seat.)

Glory be to God, creator, redeemer and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  Amen.

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, Our Rock and Our Redeemer.

SCRIPTURE LESSON       Romans 13:8-14

The Word of the LORD.  Thanks be to God!

SERMON                            “Starting Over, Transformed by Love”

*HYMN Today a New Beginning

If you would like to share your joys and concerns with the congregation, please call or email the church office.
Holy God, hear us as we pray for your blessing.
Holy God, have mercy on us.
Especially we thank you for the mission and ministry of the church;
every service that proclaims your love…
the people and relationships that sustain us…
 our calling to daily discipleship…
signs of new life and hope…
all who care for creation; and work for justice and peace for all people…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of thanks.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.
Merciful God, renew this weary world, heal the hurts of all your children,
and bring about your peace for all in Christ Jesus, the living Lord.

Especially we pray for
the church of Jesus Christ in every land…
the stewardship and healing of creation…
 friends and family members…
 neighbors in special need…
all who serve your mission in the world…
 leaders, to lead with compassion…
all who grieve and lament loss of justice, freedom and life…
(silence will be kept for your specific prayers of intercession.)
Holy God, have mercy on us.
All this we ask of you, Lord God, through Jesus Christ our Savior,
and in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

May our offerings help to free your people, O Lord, from bondage to sin.  Unite us as a community of mutual caring in which differences are resolved as we listen to one another and seek to offer understanding. May the light of your love shine through all our efforts to share your good news. Keep us in the light when we are tempted to ignore or violate your commandments. With these prayers, we dedicate our gifts.  Amen

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Christ, all people here below.
Praise Holy Spirit evermore,
Praise Triune God, whom we adore.  Amen.

*HYMN Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah

Seek every day the presence we have known here. God offers strength for every challenge we face.

Let us make God’s deeds known among the people.
Owe no one anything, except to love one another.

We seek to live honorably in the spirit of Christ.
